Modulus Quartet specialises in performing original string quartet repertoire written in close collaboration with a number of international composers. Drawing on its collective experience, the quartet seeks out music of an individual style, developing creative relationships with composers and artists. The quartet explores new ways of presenting music, performing in unusual venues and incorporating visual arts and multi-media technology.
Past projects include their 2017 debut album 12 Seconds of Light performed on tour in UK and Romania; premiering new scores, by Terry Davies, for three 1920s silent Surrealist films at the Crucible Theatre for the 2019 Sheffield DocFest; and several recording projects including Richard Norris's Sensoria; Veera Lummi's Tide Within for the film short Burning Gold directed by Mat McDermott; and Veera's solo vocal album Liminal. IN 2024, Modulus worked with Newham Music’s Youth Ensemble Scheme, using Gagarin Quartets as the inspiration for creative composition work.

In 2025, Modulus started a new series of concerts, Modulations, at the Theatreship in Canary Wharf, London, showcasing new string quartet writing. They will be continuing this series during 2026 - their 10th anniversary year. The quartet have recently recorded Gagarin Quartets for release later this year and will also be bringing out an EP of works by Malcolm Lindsay and Eliot Lloyd Short. This will be released in April 2026 at the Theatreship.
